About Jago Bahan
SSK is one of the pioneer organisation, in the field of women empowerment, gender justice and human rights. It was formed in 1978 and subsequently registered under Society Registration Act 1860, Registration No.-193/81- 82, Dated 17/09/1981. Sri Ganga Sharan Singh a close associate of Sri Jai Prakash Narain and renowned socialist fighter for the cause of oppressed and neglected section of the society, pledged to support Dr. Shanti Ojha and gave a mission and vision of the organisation. The Organisation is situated in a big building (nine rooms) in the heart of town. It has its own rich library with about 6,000 Books, 500 Reports and newspaper clippings. The thrust area is dissemination of information on women issues. The organisation is also branch of JAGORI, All India Mahila Dakshta Samiti Guild of Services, Women Collision, Joint Women Programme & NAWO, New Delhi.

Direct intervention to combat all forms of violence against women & children and through a process empowering women, with emphasis on gender justice.
Our vision
Promoting women & child rights as human rights in the policy agenda to ensure equality in the socio, economic, legal & political spheres leading to justice, to aware the women of their social, economic & legal rights.
Objectives
SSK is committed to achieve the following objectives :-
Organise women to develop their status in the community.
Improve women's and children's domestic, social, legal and economic status.
Provide justice for all and combat violence against women & children.
Create equal opportunities & equal rights for every women & children in Bihar.
Establish linkage and network with law enforcing authorities, local people, local elected bodies & civil society as well as other organisations working for the rights of women and children.
Adopt measures to remove all forms of discrimination and harassment against women.
Exposure on Women's Issue
The organisation is approved by Govt. of India, Ministry of Finance in respect of exemption from tax US/80(g) of Income Tax Act and by Ministry of Home Affairs and also for acceptance. of foreign donations under FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act). We have been continually handling cases of oppression of women receiving support of the police and the legal professionals. We have been organising numerous awareness programmes for women's empowerment and human rights. We publish JAGO BAHAN (Hindi) the only journal in North India dealing with women issues. This journal has proved to be a great public opinion builder.
The Chief functionary of the organisation was accepted as a Delegate at the Fourth World Conference for women held at Beijing (China) in 1995, the World Congress for women in Politics at Manila (Philippines), in 1998 and 23rd U.N.O. Consul Assembly review session of Beijing & New York in 2000. She was also included in Delegations visiting Russia in 1984 and 1990. She retired as Joint Director, Mass Education Deptt. of HRD, Govt of Bihar in 1997 and since then, have been working as a whole timer social activist. Thus we have enough exposure on women issues.
